Why improper mooring tail selection compromises safety

    Safer handling of oxygen

Welding oxygen is often considered harmless compared to acetylene or other combustible gases. However, this is not the case. Oxygen gives us life and forms around 21% of the content of the atmosphere along with nitrogen, argon, carbon dioxide (CO2) and a few other trace gases. This amount is sufficient to cause metal to rust, fires to burn out of control and certain foods to sour. Multiply that by 750 to 1,000 times and you can appreciate how dangerous the environment inside a high-pressure cylinder is.

Why not all anti snap-back rope solutions are equally engineered

Our technical product manager and rope expert, Thomas Caradec addresses what shipowners should bear in mind when selecting the safest, most reliable and proven anti snap-back rope solution.

  • Key aspects to consider when converting from steel wire to Acera ropes

Most rope suppliers now deliver HMPE (high modulus polyethylene) solutions. Because the market has become harder to navigate for customers, we asked our resident mooring ropes expert, Dag-Erik Delgado, to outline what customers should think about when transitioning from steel wires to our Timm Acera SBA™ HMPE ropes, as well as the value of retrofitting in the first place.
